Lubrizol wins battle in its war to protect additive from Exxon When it comes to high-stakes fights, Mike Tyson and Michael Spinks have nothing on Lubrizol Corp. and Exxon Corp. Lubrizol this month won a round in a legal battle with Exxon that will help decide which company gets what share of the increasingly lucrative market for motor oil additives.
Wickliffe-based Lubrizol, the country's largest independent additive producer, obtained a federal court injunction June 17 stopping Exxon from seeling a new additive product which Lubrizol claimed violates a patent in received in 1980.
