Big 3 ties may be costly, auto industry study says Relying on the Big Three American automakers for business may end up hurting northern Ohio's automotive industry suppliers and could ultimately put a crimp in the local economy. This is the warning from Richard D. Bingham, a professor in the College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University.

He has been studying trends in the automotive industry and their significance for Cleveland and northern Ohio manufacturers. A stronger future, he believes, lies in aligning with Japanese automakers which have built operations in the United States.
