Merger talks peril Hopkins' hub hopes The latest wave of merger talks in the airline industry could threaten protracted efforts by Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to secure its future as a hub airport. Last week, two publications reported the parent companies of Northwest and Continental airlines are discussing a merger.

If those talks come to fruition, Hopkins' bid to solidify its status as a Continental hub could be over, according to industry analysts. Continental has been building its hub operation here for more than a year, but has said it won't finish its expansion until after the airline emerges from Bankruptcy Court proceedings.
