U.S. court earmarks fund for cleanup. (U.S. District Court rules in favor of David Brennan in his dispute with LTV Steel Co.) (Brief Article)

Crain's Cleveland Business, December, 1991 by Prizinsky, David

A federal court in Washington, D.C. last week ruled in favor of Akron industrialist David Brennan in his dispute with LTV Steel Co. over who's responsible for the cost of bringing an Alabama steel mill into compliance with state and federal environmental laws. U.S. District Court Judge John H.

Pratt ruled that Mr. Brennan's Gulf States Steel in Gadsden was entitled to $31 million from an escrow fund. The escrow fund was set aside by the judge in LTV's bankruptcy case to cover LTV's potential liability in the environmental cleanup. Gulf States acquired the mill from LTV in January 1986.
