Horizon Financial Services Inc. is talking with possible buyers while it expands its balance sheet and invests heavily in variable-rate mortgages under the leadership of its acting president Frank Hawkins. The goal is to either hook a buyer willing to pay a price the thrift's board will find attractive or grow the S&L into a more profitable, and therefore more desirable, institution.
Investment bankers representing Horizon are working on assignments with numerous parties considering a purchase of Horizon or some other investment in the thrift, Mr. Hawkins said. Both commercial banks and other potential buyers, from the local market and elsewhere, are among the interested parties, said Mr. Hawkins, who took over as acting president June 26.
