Lakewood Hospital doctors get into edge via computer. (centralized automated patient information system)

Lakewood Hospital says it's taking its physicians to the cutting edge of technology with a new centralized patient information computer system. The system will give doctors access to their patients' clinical information from their offices, homes and nursing stations. The Clinical Access System was designed jointly by the hospital and Knowledge Data Systems, a Larkspur, Calif., subsidiary of Ameritech Corp.

To make it work, a physician needs a personal computer, a modem and Microsoft Windows software, which allows the doctor to operate the system without complicated computer commands.
