Oglebay Norton restarts dormant mine line. (Oglebay Norton Co.)

For the first time in six years, Oglebay Norton Co. has activated the second of two iron ore processing lines at its mine in Minnesota. Oglebay Norton, based in Cleveland, co-owns and manages the Eveleth, Minn., mine that produces ore for steelmakers. While the future of the mine remains in doubt, 1994 is proving to be a banner year for it.
Oglebay will up production to 5.1 million tons of ore this year from an estimated 4.1 million tons in 1993, said John Selis, Oglebay's vice president of iron ore. Increased demand from its partners in the mine prompted Oglebay late last month to call back about 80 laid off workers to start the second processing line, he said.
