Big HMO may extend coverage beyond its traditional network To meet the demand of a competitive market, Kaiser Permanente may offer a coverage plan that would give customers the option of receiving medical care outside the Kaiser network. Kaiser wants to remain competitive in the local managed-care market by expanding the range of products it offers, said Cleve Lee Killingsworth, who in August became president of the region's operations.

Kaiser is "looking at a variety of ways to make sure the plan is affordable and flexible," Mr. Killingsworth said.
