State job-training programs pegged for consolidation. (Ohio)

COLUMBUS - A complete overhaul of the state's job training programs has been recommended by a task force led by Lt. Gov. Nancy P. Hollister. The state spends nearly $1 billion a year on 52 job training programs. About half of that money comes from the federal government, which is expected to reduce sharply its aid to such programs.
The Job Training Task Force concluded the state could lose 25% of its federal aid, or about $100 million a year. At present, several state agencies, including the departments of development, education and human services as well as the Ohio Board of Regents, administer the training programs.
