2 local firms win bidding war for wireless licenses. (Wireless Ventures Inc., Miccom Associates Ltd.)

Wireless Ventures Inc. of Cleveland and Miccom Associates Ltd. of Akron are set to receive licenses for personal communications services territories, although not as many as they wanted. Wireless Ventures ended last week's bidding in a Federal Communications Commission auction of personal communications services (PCS) licenses by offering top bids totaling $5.9 million for five territories: Ashtabula and Portsmouth, Ohio; Glens Falls and Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and Richmond, Ind.
Miccom offered $3.2 million to secure licenses in Findlay and Marion, Ohio. Wireless Ventures is an outgrowth of a communications consulting firm founded five years ago by Saad Khayat and Greg Neely. Documents filed with the FCC identify Miccom's principals as attorneys James Burke and John...
