Zaxis International Inc., a biotechnology company based in Hudson, is planning a public stock sale this year to raise money for the acquisition of the assets of a Menlo Park, Calif., firm. Zaxis president and chief executive officer C.E. "Bud" Leffler said the company has a one-year option to buy the assets of LabIntelligence Inc.

Mr. Leffler said LabIntelligence has automated a system for separating and identifying proteins, viruses and other biological materials. "We have locked the company up for a year and we intend to go ahead with the acquisition," Mr. Leffler said last week. Mr. Leffler said Zaxis (pronounced zee-ak-sis), which currently is traded on the Nasdaq bulletin board system, is discussing the planned stock sale with underwriters. He didn't provide...
