USA Waste dumping effort for Waste Management deal. (USA Waste Services Inc.; Waste Management Inc.)

The failure of a deal that would have made one company a giant waste hauler in Greater Cleveland could mean lower waste disposal costs for area businesses. USA Waste Services Inc. of Houston has backed off its offer to buy the Cleveland-area operations of Waste Management Inc., but local officials say several smaller potential suitors for Waste Management's business have been circling for a landing in the local market.
Neither USA Waste nor Waste Management would comment on the deal falling apart, or on whether Waste Management was seeking other buyers for its Cuyahoga County business.
