Marriott reservation center geared to book more jobs. (Marriott International's Great Lakes Worldwide Reservation Center in Solon, Ohio)

With the continuing growth of Marriott International Inc., the phones at its reservation center in Solon should be ringing off the hook by the end of the year - and that means more jobs for the outpost here. The Washington, D.C.-based hotel company projects its Great Lakes Worldwide Reservation Center during 1998 will receive as many as 1.9 million phone calls, or about double the 968,000 calls it handled in 1997, said Ken Hiller, the Marriott executive overseeing the expansion of the calf center.

The center previously was operated by Renaissance Hotel International, a chain Marriott acquired in March 1997. To carry the extra load, Mr. Hiller said employment at the call center, 5895 Harper Road, will be beefed up to 125 by the end of June from 60 right now. The...
