In our professional lives, interactions with government often are unpleasant and unhelpful. Even under the best circumstances, the bureaucracy can be a nightmare to navigate. As a result, when a government program comes along that is truly useful, many businesses choose to steer clear of it or ignore it.

Although this often is a prudent instinct, one government program I have found to be consistently user-friendly and valuable is the Cleveland office of the United States Export Assistance Center, a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
