Dutch firm buys Groupware Technology

Cleveland-based software firm Groupware Technology Inc. has been acquired by Oce N.V., a printing and copying company based in Venlo, the Netherlands. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Groupware develops software to store and manage paper engineering and office documents in electronic databases.

For the past five years, it has developed software for Oce, which has 19,500 employees worldwide and posted revenue of $2.7 billion in fiscal 1997. Under the new ownership, Groupware will change its name to Oce Groupware Technology Ltd. Founder Douglas Bower will become president and chief executive of the new division. Mr. Bower expects the Cleveland operation to double employment to 50 in the next 18 months. - Jennifer Beauprez
