SOME POWER COMPANIES TURNING ON TO GREEN POWER.(Oberlin Power and Light Co. and American Municipal Power-Ohio offer electricity generated from renewable sources)

By early next year, residents and businesses in Oberlin and Cuyahoga Falls could be doing their part to improve the environment simply by flicking on their lights. The municipally owned power companies in the two towns are poised to begin offering "green" power to customers willing to pay a few dollars more per month for their electricity.

``So far, we have made one mailing to our customers, and frankly, the response has been light," said Steve Dupee, utility services manager for Oberlin Power and Light Co., the college town's electric company. "But we feel there will be a market for it." The trend toward offering green power -- electricity generated using renewable energy sources such as water, wind, the sun and landfill gases -- is picking up steam...
