Congress hopes to wrap up its legislative business for the year this week, meaning furious battles over the federal budget, tax breaks and a proposed increase in the minimum wage. The long-running budget impasse between congressional Republicans and the White House is the major issue holding up adjournment for the year.
Although the federal budget year began Oct. 1, annual spending bills for a large number of federal agencies are still unresolved. Once the disputes over spending priorities are resolved, it won't be long before Congress heads home for the rest of the year.
