New jail phone deal to collect profits for Ameritech, county.

Every time a prisoner "reaches out" on one of the 400 telephones in the cell blocks of the Cuyahoga County Justice Center, the county rings up a profit. In an effort to keep what have become significant revenues flowing from the phones, the Cuyahoga County commissioners approved a new five-year contract Nov.
3 with Ameritech Corp. to continue providing collect call-only service to prisoners. The pact promises healthy profits for the county and the phone company alike.
