In an aggressive effort to gain brand recognition and enrollment outside its home base, Medical Mutual of Ohio is spending $2 million on a multimedia advertising campaign targeted at the state's central and southern regions. The campaign is aimed at helping Cleveland-based Medical Mutual compete for business on the turf of rivals such as Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Cincinnati and United Healthcare, which uses Columbus as the base for its Ohio operations.

Of Medical Mutual's nearly 1.5 million Ohio enrollees, about 1.2 million are in Northeast and Northwest Ohio.
