With the federal government planning to cut millions of dollars from the NASA Glenn Research Center budget, an advocacy group for the center has turned to someone with strong political and business ties to retain those dollars. John Lewis, a managing partner at the law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey LLP of Cleveland, was appointed last month as chairman of the Ohio Aerospace Council, an organization formed by the Greater Cleveland Growth Association to promote NASA Glenn and to lobby on the research center's behalf.

He succeeds Frank Nichols, a vice president at Parker Hannifin Corp., who had the post for two years. Mr. Lewis has established two goals for the council: raise the local and national awareness of NASA Glenn, and identify the research conducted...
