Sports cars/Roadsters Ford Thunderbird The Ford Thunderbird is this year's head turner. Though it just began arriving in dealerships in summer, its expected run of 25,000 Thunderbirds virtually is sold out. The new Thunderbird borrows styling cues from the classic 1955 and 1957 Thunderbirds.
It has a more rounded shape but the same proportions, with a small passenger compartment, stretched hood and long trunk lid. The Thunderbird remains true to the original by being a two-seat roadster, like it was from 1955 to 1957, and being powered by a V-8 engine. Ford uses the same architecture and 252-horsepower, 3.9-liter V-8 installed in the Lincoln LS. The engine is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission.
