Getronics lays off 76 in wake of LTV woes.(Dutch company will lay off emplyees now working for LTV Corp. in Cleveland)(Brief Article)

Getronics NV, an information technology firm based in Amsterdam, Holland, intends to lay off 76 employees in Cleveland who now are working for beleaguered LTV Corp. In a Dec. 7 letter to the state of Ohio, Getronics said the layoffs are a direct result of LTV's intentions to cease steelmaking operations and the termination of an IT services contract between LTV and Getronics.

The layoffs began Dec. 12 and will continue through June. About 20 Getronics employees, including help desk analysts, telecommunications managers and support staff, were dismissed Dec. 12. The next round of layoffs is scheduled to occur on Jan. 15 and will include 10 employees, Getronics stated in its letter. ``We are operating under the assumption that LTV will wind down...
