OfficeMax Inc. is shifting its gaze from the everyday consumer to where the real money is - small businesses. The Shaker Heights-based office supply retailer this year will begin placing greater emphasis on the needs of small businesses through new product and service offerings, said Steve Baisden, OfficeMax's manager of investor and public relations.

``What we want to do is offer the small businesses whatever they need,'' Mr. Baisden said. Small businesses ``are really the bread and butter of our business,'' he said. ``We want to try to get away from the lower-end customer,'' Mr. Baisden said.
