Garland expects hot sales from solar deal ; Alliance brings sun-soakers into mix.(Brief Article)

Roofing materials maker Garland Co. of Cleveland is anticipating significant sales gains from its new alliance with BP Solar, a unit of London-based BP plc that designs and manufacturers panels that turn sunlight into electricity. ``Although the demand certainly hasn't exploded yet, we have $12 million in projects (near and long term) that we are pursuing,'' said Larry Martof, a Garland senior engineer and product manager for the BP-produced solar panels that Garland has added to its line of roofing products.
Garland is marketing the panels under the name SolarGrid. Mr. Martof said building sales momentum will take time, but he expects SolarGrid could account for as much as 15% to 20% of Garland's annual sales in the next several years. Garland had sales...
