Byline: Marty Whitford Sam Rutigliano, coach of the Cleveland Browns from 1978 to 1984, knows firsthand how "diamonds in the rough'' lie in waiting in the later rounds of the NFL draft. Brian Sipe, the Cleveland Browns' 13th-round draft pick in 1972 (330th overall pick in the NFL draft that year) is one such Cinderella story, Rutigliano said.

In 1980, Sipe was Rutigliano's field marshal, leading the charge in the Kardiac Kids' seven come-from-behind victories. Passing for more than 4,000 yards and throwing almost twice as many touchdowns as interceptions, Sipe led the Browns to 11 regular season wins that year.
