ISPs backing tough anti-spam bill.(News)(Internet service providers )

Byline: TOM JACKSON Ohio Internet service providers and America Online are backing a state bill with strong penalties against fraudulent "spam,'' the unsolicited junk e-mails that clog inboxes. The Ohio House's Commerce and Labor Committee has scheduled an April 20 vote for House Bill 383, sponsored by Rep.
Kathleen Walcher, R-Norwalk. Rep. Walcher said she expects the panel to approve her bill, sending it to the House floor. Rep. Walcher's bill would make it a crime to falsify the return addresses and the information in the headers identifying the source computers for spam. It also bans hijacking a computer to send out multiple e-mail messages. The bill would authorize Ohio's attorney general to file lawsuits to recover damages against spammers. A...
