Techies upset as city taps Colorado biz for web work.(CIBER Inc.)

Byline: SHANNON PETTYPIECE A small contract to revamp the city of Cleveland's web site that was awarded to an out-of-town IT firm has caused a stir among local technology executives. City officials say they chose the best company for the job. Maybe so, but some local web developers think the process was flawed and that the move was indicative of a disconnect between local technology companies and the city.
"The issue is that we have a mayor and a chief technology officer and some volunteer tech evangelists who are going around this town talking about how committed they are to growing the tech industry, and yet they have the audacity to send a simple contract out of town,'' said Ron Copfer, CEO of Fathom IT Solutions Inc. of Cleveland.
