Journalists drop ball on Katrina coverage.(Opinion)

Byline: Brian Tucker Journalists often have a hard time figuring out why the public dislikes them so much. After all, don't we try to do all we can to make the world a better place by reporting the truth and keeping our fellow citizens informed? Well, yes, but sometimes we just do a lousy job.

In that case, we're no different than the plumber who comes to your house to fix a leaky faucet. Nobody pays much attention if the faucet is fixed, but if that bugger drips again in a few weeks, well ... The rush to have fresh news every minute of the day is causing even more erosion of the journalism profession's reputation, something that was driven home last week. When images of Hurricane Katrina's aftermath dominated the news, you couldn't pick up a newspaper...
