Byline: DAVID BENNETT In the race to attract foreign automotive plants such as the one Kia Motors Corp. is planning in Georgia, Ohio finds itself squeezed by savvy and incentive-friendly communities in the South and the growing automotive cluster in Canada, where companies are enticed by affordable health care.
Domestic automakers are losing their share of the U.S. market to foreign automakers, and companies such as Kia, Toyota Motor Co. and Hyundai Motor Co. are pushing their advantage through large capital projects. However, because foreign transplants see Ohio as a state with high labor and manufacturing costs, as well as a large presence of domestic automakers and shrinking available green space for such big projects, it finds itself behind such states...
