It wasn't as though we needed another reminder that the domestic auto industry is saddled with serious systemic problems that must be addressed if it hopes to get back on its feet. But DaimlerChrysler AG nonetheless provided further evidence of the need for the old Big Three automakers to get their act together with the headline-making announcement last week that its Chrysler Group would be cutting its production schedule for the rest of the year by 16% amid slumping sales and far more red ink that it expected even a couple months before.
