Closer cooperation with its sister properties and a more local focus will be instrumental in moving The Plain Dealer forward, says the newspaper's publisher of six months, Terrance C.Z. Egger. That progress, though, will need to be made with fewer hands on deck due to cost cuts. The paper announced last week that 64 of its 372 newsroom employees - about 17% of the editorial work force - had accepted voluntary buyout offers and will leave The Plain Dealer by year-end.
