Byline: SHANNON MORTLAND It doesn't take a crystal ball to get a picture of Northeast Ohio's future health care landscape. Just look around. Big-ticket expansion and renovation projects are rampant among the major hospital systems, which also are using affiliation agreements with other hospitals to build their empires.

They're all jockeying for key positions in the race to capture as much market share as possible in an area with a declining - or at best flat - population. As the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals inch closer to Akron, hospitals that long have called that market home each are spending tens of millions of dollars to upgrade and expand existing buildings and construct new ones. However, they aren't stopping with defending their own...
