He's the tops, as far as economists go * There's a reason National City Corp.'s Richard DeKaser is so widely quoted in the national news media: He knows his stuff. USA Today certainly thinks so, and last week it named him its economist of the year. "Last year he was the most accurate forecaster on USA Today's panel of prominent economists,'' the paper reported.
"He ranked first out of 41 economists who filled out the survey every quarter.'' For this year, Mr. DeKaser predicted the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged all year. But after that, the paper noted, it's anyone's guess. While the economy has slowed, a situation that could point to an interest rate cut, "We've got a war on inflation that's still not yet won,'' Mr. DeKaser said....
