Byline: AMY ANN STOESSEL Dr. Robert P. Friedland wants to know why people get Alzheimer's disease. He hasn't figured it out yet, but he's been working since 1977 to get to the answer. "It's very challenging because there is so little known about the disease,'' said Dr. Friedland, who is chief of the Case Western Reserve University Lab of Neurogeriatrics.

"It involves all of a person.'' As a part of his quest to unravel the mysteries of Alzheimer's, Dr. Friedland is leading the National African-American Alzheimer's Disease Health Literacy Program, for which he was the recipient of awards totaling $413,000 from Pfizer, Eisai and Forest Pharmaceuticals.
