Health-care superstores planned. (Med Max Inc.)

A West Bloomfield Township pharmacist who is a former merchandising executive at Troy-based Kmart Corp. is starting a health-care "category killer," with eight stores planned around the Detroit area next year. Med Max Inc. is the brainchild of F. Kevin Browett, who spent 12 years working for various pharmacy chains before joining Kmart in 1990.

He quit in November 1994 to begin work on the Med Max concept. The first store will open in July near Westland Mall. Essentially, the Med Max stores will be a combination pharmacy, over-the-counter drugstore, vitamin store, hospital-supply store and exercise-equipment store.
