Dome to be most modern ballpark abandoned. (Pontiac, Michigan's Silverdome)

If the Detroit Lions leave Pontiac for a new downtown Detroit stadium, they would make the Silverdome the most modern ballpark ever abandoned by a National Football League franchise. The Dome is young and well-endowed by stadium standards. Opened in 1975, the Silverdome is younger than other stadiums across the country up for replacement, such as Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium, built in about 1970, or the Houston Astrodome, which opened in 1965.

More important, the Silverdome has the physical qualities to generate big-league revenue. With its 80,368 seats, the Silverdome is among the top three NFL ballparks in seating capacity.
