Ypsi fears Oakwood study means closing Beyer. (Ypsilanti; Oakwood Healthcare Inc.; Beyer Hospital)

The city of Ypsilanti is noticeably absent from a task force organized by Oakwood Healthcare Inc. to assess the needs of greater Ypsilanti. That's because the city is suing Dearborn-based Oakwood to wrest away ownership of Beyer Hospital in Ypsilanti. The city administration thinks Oakwood intends to close 148-bed Beyer and leave Ypsilanti without an acute-care hospital for the first time since 1912, said Turhan Ovacik, assistant city attorney.

Ovacik is with Barr Anhut & Associates P.C., an Ypsilanti-based law firm that serves as counsel to the city government. Oakwood says the city is overreacting.
