Automotive seat-maker Bertrand Faure SA is counting on the acquisition of General Motors Corp.'s Delphi Automotive Systems seat business. The Paris-based company needs a strengthened North American presence because, as a parts supplier, it could be shut out entirely if customers Lear Corp. and Johnson Controls Automotive Systems become self-sufficient.
Delphi's $1.4 billion seating business would turn Bertrand Faure into a supplier of complete seating in North America, a business it already provides in Europe. It would also give GM yet another choice of vendors and leverage against the two major suppliers.
