The Kalamazoo-based order, whose hospital holdings include St.
John Health System in Detroit, has just 340 nuns left. And those nuns have a median age of 72, said John Lore, president and CEO of the Sisters of St. Joseph Health System, whose headquarters is in Ann Arbor. Succession planning requires that the order find a partner within the next two years to carry on the work and the Catholic mission of the health care company, Lore said.
