Gale Research to merge. (merger between Gale Research Co. and The Thompson Group)

Parent firm forms $350M research unit Gale Research Co., already considered one of the largest print-research companies in the world, is being merged with two other large research companies owned by Gale's parent, The Thomson Corp. The merger, which will keep Gale in metro Detroit but change its name to The Gale Group, will create one of the world's largest print and electronic publishers of academic and business research for libraries, universities and schools.
The move is expected to expand Gale from sales near $150 million with 650 employees to sales near $350 million with 1,300 to 1,400 workers.
