Just a little more than two years ago, Gary Dickinson had 31,000 employees working for him when he ran General Motors Corp.'s Delco operations. His new company has 28. Like many small-business owners, he started his career with a big company - in this case, the world's largest - before taking the expertise he'd acquired and starting a small company.
He saw services that GM and other big companies could use that didn't exist, demands that weren't being met. And he started his company to fill those needs. Several other members of the administrative team of Nonlinear Dynamics Inc. come from a large company or university.
