FUND-RAISING GOALS RISE: CAPITAL CAMPAIGNS MAY TOP $1.8 BILLION FOR LOCAL NONPROFITS.

The Detroit Institute of Arts' $320 million fund-raising campaign announced last week brings the combined goals of local major campaigns under way or on the drawing boards to about $1.8 billion, a Crain's survey shows. Such campaigns are held in addition to fund-raisers for normal program needs.
They include capital campaigns to build or renovate buildings and endowment campaigns to build a reliable pool of constant income. ``It's just ridiculous,'' said Dennis Jones, president of Jones Associates, Counsel to Philanthropy in Troy. ``The bottom line: there's a real glut of campaigns.
