COMPUWARE COVETS GM: KARMANOS WANTS CONTRACTS WITH AUTOMAKER.

Watch out, EDS Corp. Compuware Corp. co-founder, Chairman and CEO Peter Karmanos Jr. has his eye on your massive computer consulting arrangements with General Motors Corp. After all, the Farmington Hills computer consultant is about to become GM's neighbor in downtown Detroit. At Tuesday's annual shareholders' meeting, attended by about 150, Karmanos beamed when a shareholder asked whether Compuware was chasing GM work.
``We have been cornering Mr. (Ralph) Szygenda (GM's chief information officer) every time he leaves his office,'' Karmanos said. ``We believe GM will become one of our largest clients. ... We believe we have an edge in certain parts of that work.'' He specifically mentioned work on EDS contracts that are nearing expiration....
