GOLF-LOVING CPA TAKES SWING AT IRS.(accountant seeks changes in golf course depreciation tax policy)

Thomas Jurewicz is trying to get more green from golf greens. The CPA at Rehmann Robson in Farmington Hills is leading a crusade with some real estate attorneys in the Carolinas to get the Internal Revenue Service to allow golf course owners and developers to depreciate greens and tees. While that might seem inconsequential, Jurewicz, an avid golfer and sports fan, says all golfers have a stake in the outcome.

The upfront savings of $100,000 in the first year alone of a new, $10 million golf course could be used by developers to make their courses just that much better, said the 39-year-old Jurewicz. With a 15-year depreciation schedule on tees and greens, a course owner could realize tax savings of about $1 million, he said. That money would come in...
