State to see how it stacks up in dot.com world.

LANSING-The state is spending $241,500 to learn what information-technology and e-commerce companies need from Michigan, and how the state's climate for dot.coms compares to technology-friendly locations around the country. The Michigan Economic Development Corp., or MEDC, has launched two studies.
One, a $115,000 contract with Battelle Memorial Institute in Ohio, targets Michigan technology companies, such as software vendors and telecommunications firms. The second study, for up to $126,500, concentrates on Michigan's environment for dot.coms - companies that do all their business on the Internet. Deloitte Consulting L.L.C. is measuring Michigan against benchmark cities and regions with various strengths, such as technology-based economies, venture capital...
