Move over dot.coms; make room for the dot.bams. The technology units of brick-and-mortar manufacturers are intended to be places where the old economy links with the world of e-commerce. That's a task that requires collaboration, brainstorming and an office designed to make all of it as easy as possible.

Ford Motor Co.'s iTek Center in Dearborn reflects that point of view. The 460,000-square-foot facility, staffed by Ford employees along with staffers of Compuware Corp. and IBM Corp., is dedicated to the creation of computer-related technology.
