Oakland County government and Automation Alley are preparing a promotional campaign to persuade Covisint to locate its permanent headquarters in the county. Covisint is the purchasing and information-sharing Internet exchange being formed by Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp. and DaimlerChrysler AG.

Covisint is now housed in temporary offices in Southfield. Michigan presented its case for keeping the exchange in the state last week. The Oakland campaign is separate from the state's effort. ``Our goal, first and foremost, is to market Michigan. Covisint has said it wants to work through the state in its site search,'' said Kathleen McMahon, director of communications at the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
