Seven companies join new customer-choice electricity program.

LANSING- Seven companies, three with ties to the corporations that own Michigan's two largest electric utilities, have signed up to supply electricity under Michigan's unfolding customer-choice program. They are the early and at this point the only competitors to Detroit Edison Co. and Consumers Energy Co.
licensed by the Michigan Public Service Commission as alternate electric suppliers. Some of the suppliers have already functioned in that capacity, winning bids in the early phases of Edison's and Consumers' electric customer-choice programs. One licensee is a large national player in electricity and natural-gas sales, and another is a new Michigan company.
