No matter whom the domestic automakers hire to run Covisint, the Internet trade exchange, someone won't be happy. A cross-section of Internet and auto-industry sources interviewed by Crain's seems to want a car guy and a Webhead; a courteous diplomat and a take-no-prisoners George Patton; a Wall Street big-biz-whiz and a start-up expert.
Oh, and this person should be willing to work out of Detroit, which everyone admits isn't always the world's easiest sell. All of them also admit that finding this perfect leader isn't likely.
