When DaimlerChrysler AG's PT Cruiser proved to be a smash hit, the company looked for quick ways to meet demand. The source for 4,000 more PT Cruisers turned out to be as close as the company's factory floor in Toluca, Mexico. But it took a persistent factory scheduling software program to find the extra capacity by analyzing dozens of ``constraints'' and establishing the most efficient order of vehicles to build on the assembly line.

``It would be impossible for humans to look at this and see all the constraints,'' said Greg Imirzian, technical account manager for ILOG Inc., a Southfield company whose software modules helped boost the PT Cruiser manufacturing and paint lines.
